Georgia Special Needs Scholarship 101
May 2023
In 2008, Georgia lawmakers established the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program to enable students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or an approved 504 Plan to attend approved private schools in the state. Through this program, families are awarded tuition dollars via the state to use towards their child’s education. The scholarship amount is determined by the services outlined in the child’s IEP or 504 Plan, and families can calculate the scholarship amount for the upcoming school year using the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship calculator. This calculator becomes available in July for the 2022-2023 school year. The program is available to Georgia public school students from Pre-K through 12th grade, and it aims to provide families with more educational options for their children, particularly those with special needs. The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program empowers parents to select an educational environment that best meets their child’s unique learning needs and provides financial support to make it possible.
